| Tourist Visas are necessary for nearly all foreign visitors planning a safari holiday. The only exceptions are some Commonwealth Countries. If you are from: UK, Canada, Nigeria or India you require a visa. Australian Citizens also require a visa. Visas may be obtained from any Tanzanian mission or on entry into the country. Please be aware that obtaining your visa on arrival can take some time and it is advisable to acquire them before traveling. Tourist visas are usually single entry and valid for 3 months. A one month extension is possible whilst in the country.
The price of visas varies depending on your nationality. For most nationalities the cost is $50 for a single entry 3 month visa.
Zanzibar is part of Tanzania so you do not require a separate visa to visit it.

Foreign Residents of Tanzanian
For Residents in Tanzania there are three types of permit: Class A - Investor, Class B - Work and Class C - Research or Voluntary. Tanzania has some of the best wildlife reserves in Africa. In fact it has a higher percentage of its area dedicated to National Parks, Game Reserves, Forest Reserves and Game Controlled Areas than any other country in Africa.(2009) The Eastern Arc mountains are a chain of isolated mountain ranges, running from the Taita Hills close to the Kenyan border with Tanzania, down through eastern Tanzania to the gap between the Udzungwa Mountains and Mt. Rungwe (Makombako Gap). From north to south the Eastern Arc comprises the Taita Hills in Kenya, the North and South Pare, the East and West Usambara, the North and South Nguru, the Ukaguru, the Uluguru, the Rubeho, and the Udzungwas. There are also smaller isolated outliers such as Mahenge Escarpment to the south of the Udzungwas across the Kilombero Valley, Malundwe Hill in Mikumi, the Uvidundwa Mountains north of the Udzungwas. |
