Dunia Camp, Serengeti migration area, and Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania: May 12-26, 2012

DUNIA CAMP

Dunia Camp: all the details.

Communication: Dunia Camp has a WiFi in the central lounge/bar area. On our last visit in June 2012 they didn't have any laptops for guests to use, but they were planning on changing this.

Ideal length of Stay: Stay at Dunia Camp for 2 - 3 nights to try and see a river crossing when the migration is around, or to enjoy the resident game at other times of the year.

Special interests: We've no doubt that Dunia Camp will follow in the footsteps of its high quality sister camps. When we last visited in 2012 it was shortly after it opened. There were one or two issues which needed ironing out, but overall it was a fantastic lodge with plenty of character. It won't appeal to those who like typical 'bush-camps' with campfires and simple rooms, however for those who want great guiding, excellent service, fantastic views and a touch of luxury, it's a good choice.

Health and Safety: There are police on duty who will escort you to your room in the evening. Dunia Camp  has a first aid kit in the office, and links with the flying doctors.

Child policy:  The camp welcomes children over the age of 8. The family rooms and the swimming pool make this a good family, friendly option.

Location: You can either fly to the airstrip, from where the camp is in easy reach, or alternatively drive here.

Food: When we last visited  we thought the food was good and plentiful, if not quite up to the standards of  other camps. We fed this feedback back to the lodge who told us that they'd been training the chef's very hard since, and so we're confident that it will be up to usual fantastic standard soon. Dinner was a slightly more formal affair where we all sat together around one long table in a dining room. We had tomato soup to start, followed by roasted chicken with fresh vegetables for main, and a panna cotta for dessert. All were quite good, but didn't wow us.
    Extras:
              • 2 tents - 8 in Main Camp; 4 in the Private Camp
              • Open from  March
              • There are safes in each of the rooms, and a larger one in the reception for valuables.
